Congratulations to our athletes for finishing 1st in the U11 age group. A big well done to the individual winners also, in U9 Malikai came 1st in the boys category and in the U11’s Megan Taylor finished in 1st place & Beth Smyth 2nd in the girls. Sale Harriers took 1st place in the U9’s but our athletes pushed them all the way.

This was our eighth year of staging an AVIVA ACADEMY STARTRACK Athletics Session. They have become more and more popular with each passing year. Over 100 youngsters, all from the local community and aged 7-15 years, took part this year.
We were very lucky on Thursday 4th August to get a visit from Jessica Ennis, the World and European Heptathlon Champion who was visiting the area as part of the countrywide promotion of the AVIVA STARTRACK programme for UK Athletics.
The cruise of a lifetime was turning out to be Butlins at sea – we were several hours late in arriving in the Caribbean; Joy and Nina’s luggage had been left out in the rain and the colours in their clothes had all run; gales were forcing P&O’s flagship vessel to stay at sea rather than visiting some of the ports we had booked to visit; there were fights over sunbeds; and passengers were generally running amok.
It all started with a passing comment on how it would be nice to organise a trip away with a race attached and by the time we had finished we were all on our way to the Edinburgh Festival Weekend with a choice of 5k, 10k and Junior races.
