Manchester Harriers and AC History

The club was founded in 1886 and was originally based in Fallowfield, Manchester.

The current membership is 200 both male and female from age 7 upwards with no upper age limit and we compete in a number of leagues both for Track and Cross County.

We are currently based at William Scholes Fields in Gatley, Stockport. Details of our training nights are available here.

On Saturday Mornings from September to March we organise a primary schools cross country league which has a large number of schools from both Stockport and Manchester competing for individual and team honours. We even have a school team from Oldham taking part.

If your school wishes to take part or if you require details about how to join us then please contact us. Even if your school doesn't have a full team you will be most welcome.

Also for young athletes aged between 9-13yrs from January 2003 we will be holding sports hall sessions. This involves a wide range of activities and if you want further information please e-mail us.

We have several athletes who have in recent years won both county and youth games honours. In the past Manchester Athletes have competed in the Olympics games with Emil Voight winning a Gold medal in the London Olympics of 1908.

In the 1970's Ricky Wilde won the 3000m European indoor title for Britain in a world indoor best time. This time is still ranked as the 8th fastest by a British athlete indoors.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly club with athletes of all abilities welcome. Even if you only want to keep fit and run with others of a similar ability you are welcome to join us.
